Creating opportunities for our students with special needs, and changing the way people see disabilities.

Month of August 2024

Movement for Change Day:
Friday, 30th August 2024

Did you Know?

  • Every two hours, an Australian child will be diagnosed with an intellectual disability.

  • An estimated 1 in 10 school students in Australia have a disability, and almost 1 in 18 have a severe or profound disability.

  • Almost 1 in 10 Australians with a disability have experienced discrimination or unfair treatment because of their disability.

  • Four out of every 5 children with disability attending school (aged 5-14 years) have faced an educational restriction.

  • Of all children with disability aged 5-17 years, only 57% had been involved in sport in the past 12 months.

  • The unemployment rate is 4.6% for people without a disability, but 10.3% for people with a disability and 34.1% for people with autism spectrum disorders.

  • Workforce participation for people with disability is 53.4%, compared to 84.1% of people the same age without.

  • Nearly half (45.2%) of all employed people with disability reported that they had experienced unfair treatment or discrimination from their employer due to their disability in the past 12 months.

Taking part in Movement for Change will not only get you moving, it will help fund work education, life skills and important classroom programs, giving our students more opportunities. More importantly, it will get more people talking so we can change the way people see disabilities and kick these kinds of statistics to the curb.

Help Us Help Them

As a school for children with special needs, our core focus is enriching the lives of our students, and enabling them the same opportunities afforded everyone their age, in school and in the community. From K-12, our programs cover social skills, life skills, financial literacy and vocational education and training.

We want to make a difference in the lives of our students and we know to do that we also need to make a difference in the world they live in.
